Celebrating Lauren & Etienne’s beautiful day

I had been looking forward to this wedding for weeks , not because I knew the bride or groom,  but because this wedding, on the 24th September, marked the beginning  of an adventure for me…

A few days before Lauren & Etienne’s beautiful wedding at Morrells in Northcliff, I left my home, and my hubby in Cape Town to venture north to Johannesburg, where my good friend, (and photographer extraordinaire!)  Laura, of Laura Jane Photography was awaiting my arrival.  Laura had asked me to shoot a few weddings with her, and of course I jumped at the chance to work with such an inspirational artist!

So, this is my first Johannesburg wedding and Vibe’s first collaboration with Laura Jane Photography! I hope you like!

Morrells is a gem of a venue, with beautiful vintage details everywhere you turn, stunning walled gardens, wonderful staff and a menu I’m sure even Gordon Ramsey himself could not find fault with!

It’s no surprise that a stylish couple such as Lauren and Etienne chose this place for their wedding, the two of them looked amazing and their special day was overflowing with style and grace.

Congratulations Lauren & Etienne! And thank-you for kicking off what is sure to be an awesome and inspiration filled few weeks in Gauteng with Laura Jane Photography!

Seaside Superstars!

If I could sum up this family in one word it would be this, SUPERSTARS….

I cannot begin to describe how much fun we had on our shoot with this lot. I think its fair to say that we always worry just a little bit before we have to do a family shoot- especially with two young boys who are often less than impressed by the idea that they’re going to have their photo taken…. Not with these guys though- we needn’t have spent a moment worrying.

As I’m sure you can see we all had a blast last Sunday. The boys were AMAZING- I have been shooting kids for years now and it is such a rare pleasure to find a family so completely in love with each other and who so genuinely enjoy spending time and having fun together.

Let me tell you a little bit about Yolande & Glenn…  These two are an inspiration to never, never give up on the idea that you will find your soulmate, they will be your best friend and you will spend the rest of your life in utter bliss!

The two met online a couple of years back playing Farm Town, (a facebook game), a fast friendship was quickly formed and they spent the next year chatting across the virtual fence.  Glenn is originally from England and Yolande from Cape Town so when Glenn mentioned that he loved to travel but he had not yet seen the wonders of South Africa, of course Yolande jumped at the chance to show off her beautiful homeland!

So, in April last year Glenn made the trip to Cape town, and immediately fell in love with the country and of course, Yolande and her fabulous boys! His month in SA passed far too quickly for everyone’s liking and when the time came to say goodbye, I can only imagine the tears which flowed! Obviously this could not be the end of such a wonderful relationship, and not a month later, Glenn returned and reunited with his soulmates.. I say soulmates because the love within this family is so apparent- not only between the two lovebirds but with the boys as well.  And, as they say, the rest is history…

Well, not quite history… I am so happy to say that there is so much happiness to come for this family, Glenn and Yolande are getting married later this year, (I have to admit we are just a little bit more than exited to have the privilege of shooting their wedding!) And as I write at this very moment, the fab four are enjoying an awesome holiday in England, (well, it’s only fair that Glenn has his turn as tour guide!) We know you guys are having an amazing time because well, we can’t imagine the time you guys spend together as being anything less than spectacular!

When I asked Yolande for a little background about the family, she told me about some very sound advice given to her by her mom which I simply have to share. It is possibly the single most important piece of advice any mother, (or father) can give a child, and as Ruan & I are not yet blessed with children, we are happy to share it with you…

Do yourselves a favour, marry your best friend.

Such wise words. Brings a whole new meaning to the words, “Mom knows best” eh?

Hope you like the pictures guys, cant wait to show you the rest!

*Love Found*

We all know that first impressions are important, and it seems that Maritsa made a marked first impression on Shaun.  Seven years ago, the two met at the beach and hit it off, but, as it is at the beginning of so many love stories, the day ended in their separation, without even a phone number exchanged!

Contact was lost for years. So strong though, was Shaun’s attraction to Maritsa, that even 6 years later he still had the mind to find her… and now he had the means…He googled and searched for her on the usual social platforms and success! He found her, got in touch, and suggested a meeting. However the path to love is not so simple, poor Shaun still had to wait another 6 months until Maritsa returned home from her travels at sea!

Shaun’s wait was not in vain. Maritsa and Shaun were reunited just a few months ago, and since then, Love has truly blossomed between the two… The way they connect with each other in every single moment they share is out there for all to see and is truly inspiring.

When I asked Shaun and Maritsa to tell us about thier relationship, I loved this quote from Shaun, ‘I never knew it would turn out to be that the one person I’ve known for years would be the person  I would spend the rest of my years to come’. Don’t be surprised if you see these two pop up on the blog again in the not too distant future- I feel an engagement shoot on the horizon!

It seems though that the pair will have to be patient. Maritsa is due to continue her travels working at sea. Hey, they’ve been waiting seven years already after all, what’s a few more months other than something really great to look forward to?

Maritsa and Shaun were such a pleasure to shoot, with so much energy between the two of them and such an awesome sense of fun, even with the freezing ocean unexpectedly soaking the pair up to the waist within the first 5 minutes of shooting they kept on smiling!

Just had to post a couple of these with Maritsa’s sister, Janke, how about that for great genes- what a gorgeous family!

Grant & Diane’s Colourful Seaside Wedding

It was a beautiful day in Paternoster, sun shining, a lovely sea breeze filled the air. Friends and family of Diane and Grant busied themselves with putting the finishing touches to the colourful seaside wedding. The location for the ceremony was selected- and then re-selected as the tide started to creep in! A fantastic vibe was lighting up the house in which the bride began her preparations…

The venue for the ceremony was a patch of the beautiful Paternoster beach. Dress code? Shoes optional!

It’s always special to see a couple so completely in love and Grant and Diane are so obviously made for each other, their love for each other is apparent in every look they exchange, every embrace and every kiss they share.

I’m sure that when Diane started telling people that she wanted purple, green and orange as her colour scheme, she would have had more than a few unsure reactions, myself included! But just check out how colourful and bright and amazing it looks! Awesome!

I think the colour scheme set the tone for the wedding, which was far from a solemn occasion. This pair is way too fun-loving and warm, from the ceremony to the speeches- the two beamed and laughed their way through the celebrations and their genuine joy shone through even brighter than the Paternoster sun!

The fantastic cake was made by friends- check out the fabulous seaside details! Such fun- Love it!

Grant & Diane, it was such a pleasure for us to be a part of your special day, thank-you! We wish you all the very best for your future together! We cant wait to show you the rest of your pictures!! x

Sunset Stunner

This lovely lady is Melissa…

A couple of months ago we shot Melissa & Rohan’s wedding in Veldrift…. Only a few days later Rohan had to leave for Dubai for work. Poor things didn’t even have time for a honeymoon!

So, with Rohan stuck in Dubai, missing his newly wed wife, Melissa decided to make him a present, and gave us a call. Of course we jumped at the chance to photograph this beauty again!

Melissa wanted to shoot in a location that would remind Rohan of home. Camps Bay was an obvious choice, with its distinctive Rock formations and world-famous sunset, we found the perfect spot for the shoot.

We had so much fun on this shoot. Melissa is a natural in front of the camera. With those striking eyes, and so easy to direct, she made this shoot a dream.

Sometimes these shoots don’t seem like work at all… and this was definitely one of those shoots. The stunning light, gorgeous location and awesome subject made this session a real pleasure.

Melissa was such a wonderful subject, naturally comfortable in front of the camera, she brought a wonderful energy to the stunning evening shoot, and lets face it- how many people are willing to climb and pose on huge rocks in a tiny dress and bare feet?

Thanks Melissa! You truly are a rock star!  And I think Rohan is going to get a pleasant reminder of home, and his beautiful bride when he sees the pictures!

Celebrating Katherine & Sandi’s Big Day

So here it is… Our first wedding featured on the blog. Here’s a few of our  favourites from Katherine & Sandi’s beautiful day…

The ceremony was held at St Bernard’s Church in Newlands.

The reception after was held at the stunning  Vineyard hotel and spa, also in Newlands, actually about 100meters from the church!

Katherine’s family had dressed the reception with wonderfully quirky table centrepieces, featuring driftwood, martini glasses and goldfish!

Congratulations again Katherine & Sandi! Hope you’re enjoying your honeymoon! xxx

And so we enter the world of the blog…

So, this is it. Vibe Photography’s first blog entry. Let me first say that we are completley new to the world of blogging so please be patient as we find our feet!

We are Vibe Photography, that is to say, we are Ruan and Kay Vorster, the husband and wife team behind the Cameras. After more than five years travelling the world as photographers, we have finally decided to settle in one place for the foreseeable future . I am originally from Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, and Ruan spent most of his childhood in Port Elizabeth. Once we decided that we were going to make South Africa our base, we both wanted to be close to the coast, a vibrant city and somewhere with beautiful locations and wedding venues, so there was really only one place for us- Cape Town! So here we are and starting our business, and our lives together.

I hope you will all love the blog and please feel free to let us know your thoughts on our forthcoming posts.
